A minor Criminal Court yesterday heard the Public Prosecution’s plea in the case of a car driver allowing a female passenger to engage in indecent acts.
The Prosecution urged the court to impose the maximum penalty on the accused, to deter similar actions that could harm society.
The Public Prosecution argued that the incident was contrary to societal customs and traditions, necessitating a firm stance to stamp out such behaviour and discourage others from engaging in it.
The acts committed by the accused, according to the Prosecution, have a significant negative impact on society and the upbringing of children, particularly as the incident occurred in a public place frequented by community members.
These actions, it was stated, offend the modesty of both children and adults.
The prosecution detailed that the case involved the second accused emerging from the roof of the car, swaying her body, and dancing, with the first accused allowing her to do so.
This public display, captured on video and widely disseminated, necessitated decisive action from the Public Prosecution.
Thus, the matter was duly referred to the judiciary on charges of committing an indecent act in public and abetting conduct offensive to public decency.
The prosecution asserted that the evidence is cohesive, with the defendants confessing to all charges, supplemented by the video clip that clearly shows their actions.
The evidence presented is considered sufficient and conclusive, justifying the imposition of the maximum legally sanctioned punishment.
