The Southern Municipality, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior, the Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA), and other relevant authorities, has launched a campaign to remove illegal encroachments on public roads in the Nuwaidrat area, specifically Block 646.
During the campaign, approximately 36 violations were addressed, including the removal of heavy machinery and other miscellaneous materials such as structures and equipment. Several workshops and shops in violation were also notified of the importance of adhering to the applicable municipal laws and regulations. This area, which comprises around 90 properties classified as workshops and maintenance services, is considered a vital service area.
This campaign aligns with Public Roads Occupation Law No. 2 of 1996, which stipulates that "it is not permissible to leave movable objects outside shops, factories, warehouses, or houses except for the shortest period necessary for loading or unloading, provided that traffic is not obstructed."
The campaign is also part of the Southern Municipality's ongoing monitoring and inspection efforts to control violations and encroachments on regulations and systems. Violators are notified of the need to rectify their situation in accordance with the law, and if they fail to comply, legal measures are taken.
The municipality had previously warned owners of violating shops and workshops against occupying public roads and ensuring that goods are displayed within the boundaries of the shop only and not exceeding them, especially since such behaviors may obstruct visibility and hinder the movement of pedestrians or vehicles, and exploit pedestrian sidewalks or car parks.
