The High Criminal Court continued its hearing yesterday in the case of three Ministry of Social Development employees accused of causing damage to public funds exceeding BD266,000.

The court adjourned the case to June 11t for the closing arguments. The defendants are accused of forging applications for the “Khatwa” programme, claiming they met the programem’s requirements.

Lawyer Abdulrahman Ghunaim, representing the third defendant, argued that the elements of the crime of unintentional damage to public funds, as defined in Article 200 of the Penal Code, are not met.

He pointed out that the Ministry of Social Development was established as a new entity in mid-2022, and his client was appointed Director of the Family and Child Development Centers in November 2022.
