The Northern Governor, Mr. Ali bin Abdul Hussain Al Asfoor, launched the Northern Governorate’s mosquito control campaign with the support of Bapco Refining, under the slogan “Mosquito control is the responsibility of everyone and by everyone” in Saraya Bu Quwah.
This initiative marks the first phase of evaluation and performance measurement, coinciding with the celebration of World Environment Day on 5th June.
The launch event was attended by the Deputy Governor of the Northern Governorate, the Director General of the Northern Area Municipality, a representative of the World Health Organisation in Bahrain, the Director of the Public Health Directorate, the Director of the Sanitary Engineering Operations and Maintenance Directorate at the Ministry of Works, a member of the Northern Municipal Council for the Fourth District, the President of the Bahrain Medical Society, the Director of Follow-up Management and Information Administration, the Director of Engineering Services and Investment Administration in the governorate, along with other officials, participating parties, and volunteers.
Mr. Al Asfoor highlighted the campaign’s alignment with the Healthy Cities Programme, focusing on disease prevention, environmental protection from swamps, and community solidarity in combating mosquitoes.
The campaign emphasises broad community partnership across governmental, civil, and private sectors, aiming to prepare volunteers for effective emergency response and organise community efforts for health development, contributing to the Northern Governorate’s designation as a healthy area.
During a tour of mosquito breeding sites, the Northern Governor explained that the campaign aims to combat mosquitoes by removing waste, spraying pesticides, filling breeding hotspots near residential areas, and educating the public through a parallel media campaign. Informative leaflets were distributed to homes, and awareness videos were widely viewed on social media.
The Governor stressed the importance of community involvement and adherence to campaign guidelines for its success.
Mr. Al Asfoor expressed his gratitude to Bapco Refining for their support, as well as to the participating organisations: the Northern Municipal Council, the Northern Area Municipality, the Supreme Council for the Environment, the Ministry of Works, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture, the Ministry of Health, Bahrain Medical Society, the Paramedics Academy team, and volunteers. He praised their community partnership and the efforts made during the campaign.
