In a major crackdown on unauthorised pilgrims, Saudi authorities have apprehended and deported around 200 Bahrainis attempting to enter Mecca for the Hajj pilgrimage without proper permits. The operation included dramatic raids on hotels and interceptions of individuals trying to sneak in on buses and trains.

The apprehended individuals were linked to approximately ten licensed Hajj travel groups, while others were attempting to get around permit regulations independently. A viral video circulating on social media shows dozens of Bahrainis being escorted out of the holy land and transported to Jeddah. Sources indicate that the footage is over two days old.

The Ministry of Justice has issued a stern warning against participating in unauthorised Hajj campaigns or attempting the pilgrimage independently without the necessary documentation. The Ministry emphasises that violators will face severe consequences for non-compliance.

Performing Hajj, the Ministry reiterated, requires a permit issued by the relevant Saudi authorities. Those involved in unauthorised Hajj campaigns will face legal repercussions for breaking regulations.

The Saudi Ministry of Interior has implemented strict penalties for individuals apprehended within Mecca, the central region, holy sites, the Haramain High-speed railway, security control centres, sorting centres, and temporary security checkpoints without a valid Hajj permit.
