Government compensation for residents affected by the exceptional rainfall that hit the Kingdom in April will be disbursed before the upcoming Eid Al Adha holiday.

This follows directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, after the Ministry of Works and Municipalities completed a damage assessment in collaboration with other concerned parties such as the Municipal Councils, revealed MP Hana Fardan.

In a press statement, MP Fardan expressed her gratitude to the Ministry of Works for its efforts in this regard and for its positive communication with MPs and listening to their observations regarding the damage suffered by citizens due to the rainfall.

She explained that the Damage Assessment Committee at the Ministry of Works has followed several criteria for compensating those affected by the rainfall.

The primary criterion is that the damage must have resulted from the accumulation of rainwater. The compensation amount is then assessed based on an estimation of the extent of the damage.

Fardan noted that the extent of the damage and the number of houses affected by the exceptional rainfall this year were more severe than in previous years.

Royal directives

She pointed out that HRH Prince Salman’s directives included identifying areas that witnessed rainwater accumulation and subjecting them to infrastructure and drainage network development programmes.

This will ensure that they meet the necessary standards and efficiency to respond to various conditions.

She stressed the importance of prioritising the development of infrastructure in areas most affected by rainfall, such as Al Lawzi, Malkiya, the farms area in Demistan village, and other areas in Bahrain.
