The Labour Court has ordered a Bahraini company to pay a former European employee BD12,000 in compensation after she was unlawfully terminated from her position.

According to lawyer Eman Al Ansari, who represented the plaintiff, the employee was recruited in October 2023 on a two-year contract to serve as a “Marketing Administrator” with a monthly salary of BD500.

She had relocated to Bahrain with her family, enrolled her children in local schools, and begun work.

However, just four months into her employment, the company informed the employee without prior notice that her contract was being terminated, and refused to pay her the nearly four months’ worth of wages she had earned.

The court ruled that the company’s actions constituted unlawful dismissal, and ordered it to pay the employee BD9,750 in compensation for the unjust termination.

Additionally, the company was required to settle the employee’s outstanding salary, along with entitlements such as annual leave pay, end-of-service benefits, return ticket, and service certificate - bringing the total compensation to over BD12,000. “Employers must uphold labour laws and honour contractual agreements with foreign workers,” Al Ansari said.
