Alba and Bahrain Polytechnic Empower Employees with Top-Up Engineering Program

Manama, Bahrain - June 30, 2024 – Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), a global leader in aluminium smelting, and Bahrain Polytechnic, a premier institution for applied higher education, celebrated a significant milestone in their collaborative Top-Up Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering program. This innovative program allows diploma holders to upgrade their qualifications to a bachelor's degree in just two years, all while working full-time.

The program, launched in May 2022, has empowered 24 Alba employees to enhance their knowledge and skillset, fostering a future generation of industry experts within Bahrain. A ceremony held on June 30th at Alba's Oasis Hall recognized the dedication of the program participants. Inspiring speeches were delivered by Alba's CEO, Ali Al Baqali, and Bahrain Polytechnic's CEO, Professor Ciarán Ó Catháin. Senior officials from both institutions, including Prof. Christina Georgantopoulou, Dean of EDICT at Bahrain Polytechnic, also attended the event.

Alba's commitment to employee development is evident in their ongoing support for academic pursuits. By the end of 2023, the company had sponsored a total of 96 employees in various programs, ranging from diplomas and bachelor's degrees to MBAs and even PhDs at prestigious local and international universities. This focus on education ensures Alba maintains a highly skilled workforce and contributes to the advancement of Bahrain's human capital.
