Vital boost to Bahraini doctors and nurses

In an exciting development, doctors in Bahrain now have the opportunity to become specialists or consultants through collaboration with public and private sector hospitals by joining the Tamkeen-backed Medical Fellowship Programmes.

These fellowship pro - grammes are part of a five-point initiative aimed at bolstering the medical sector, announced in collaboration with the Supreme Council of Health during a press conference yesterday.

Two additional initiatives within this plan are designed to help Bahraini doctors obtain their Board certification, further enhancing their qualifications and career prospects.

Applications for the Resident Doctor Programme will open across two tracks on Monday, 1 July 2024, accessible through the Supreme Council of Health’s website at www. sch.org.bh.

The initiatives also extend support to the nursing sector. Newly graduated high school students will benefit from Tamkeen’s assistance in obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Moreover, students will also receive support to pursue various in-demand specializations, including Midwifery, Intensive Care, Cardiovascular Care, Kidney Diseases, and Emergency Care, ensuring a comprehensive enhancement of the medical workforce in Bahrain.

This move is part of Tamkeen’s support bundle for the healthcare sector to train and develop over 700 Bahrainis.

The project is directed by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to increase support for the employment of Bahraini doctors, and is backed by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Education Charitable Trust.

Dr. Ibrahim Ali Al-Nawakhatha, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Health, stated, “This timely announcement, which coincides with the SCE’s tenth anniversary, embodies the spirit of partnership in Team Bahrain, aiming to provide training opportunities for Bahraini youth graduating with nursing or medicine degrees.”

This support bundle aligns with Tamkeen’s commitment to supporting Bahrainis in the healthcare sector, a key economic sector contributing to the national economy, said Her Excellency Ms. Maha Abdulhameed Mofeez, Tamkeen Chief Executive.The sector provides substantial employment opportunities and currently employs more than 15,800 individuals across various roles and specializations.
