The University of Technology Bahrain (UTB) recently held an interactive seminar on the critical topic of cybersecurity risks. Organised by the AI and Metaverse Research Centre of the College of Computer Studies, the event aimed to shed light on the growing importance of cybersecurity in today's digital landscape.
Dr. Haitham Alqahtani, Vice President for Academic Affairs, stated, "With rapid technological advancement, cybersecurity has become one of the most prominent challenges we face. Cyber intrusions and cybercrimes pose a significant danger to individuals, companies, and governments alike." He added that through this seminar, attendees would be informed of the major cybersecurity risks and be provided with advice and guidelines to ensure these risks are avoided and our digital assets are protected. The seminar will showcase the latest technologies and security solutions available to counter these threats.
Mr. Ali Beshara, an experienced cybersecurity consultant, shared his insights into the latest cybersecurity threats and protection strategies. These included mitigating threats to an organisation’s brand, preventing fraud, ensuring business continuity amid cyber threats, monitoring systems for breaches, protecting sensitive data, addressing security weaknesses, recognising human error and insider threats, and securing remote access and managing access controls effectively.
In line with UTB's commitment to delivering cutting-edge education in technology, the university's Bachelor of Science in Information Technology programme offers highly relevant specialisations in Networking and Cybersecurity, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, and Applications Development. These tracks are designed to broaden students' understanding of cybersecurity, prepare them to tackle the challenges of the digital age, and inspire them to develop robust security measures for the future of various industries. Additionally, UTB plans to diversify its technology-based programmes, including a Master of Science in Cybersecurity in collaboration with École Hexagone, a French university specialising in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence, following statutory approval from the Higher Education Council.
In support of Bahrain’s national security initiatives, UTB consistently demonstrates its commitment to academic excellence and its proactive approach to meeting the evolving needs of the tech industry and emphasising the significant role of students in driving technological advancements.
