The Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA) took part in the Second Arab Tourism Statistics Forum 2024, held in Muscat from 14-16 October. Organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism in Oman in cooperation with the League of Arab States, the event gathered tourism experts, specialists, and representatives from regional and international organizations focused on tourism statistics and informatics.

Representing BTEA, Ms. Noura Al Saadoun, Director of the Policy and Planning Department, delivered a comprehensive working paper on Bahrain’s journey in establishing a national tourism statistics system. She outlined the steps taken by the Kingdom since 2015 to develop a robust tourism statistics framework, in line with international standards and recommendations.

It explored Bahrain’s efforts to upgrade existing statistical systems and highlighted various tourism-related surveys conducted over the years. Ms. Al Saadoun also discussed the progress made in creating a tourism sub-account, and how the results from the national statistics system have improved Bahrain’s global tourism rankings. She emphasized the role of these statistics in shaping the 2022-2026 Tourism Strategy and the Kingdom’s future plans for the sector.

The forum provided a platform to foster collaboration between Arab nations in advancing tourism statistics, a crucial factor in boosting Arab economies. It also focused on challenges within the tourism statistics sector, offering insights on how to overcome them through the latest trends, technologies, and international standards.

Through its participation, Bahrain highlighted the national efforts made to meet its tourism objectives, reinforcing its position as a top-tier tourism destination. The forum further promoted the exchange of regional expertise and best practices, key to developing future strategies, attracting investments, and understanding tourist behavior.
