Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) is only a week away from hosting the first on-track action in this year’s highly anticipated WEC 8 Hours of Bahrain, powered by Bapco Energies.
The 2024 World Endurance Championship (WEC) season-finale is scheduled to thrill fans on Friday and Saturday next week at ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East’ in Sakhir. But the world-class competitors featuring top endurance teams and drivers will be hitting the tarmac behind closed doors from Thursday, setting the stage for the two exciting days of non-stop battles.
A pair of free practices each will be held for both the WEC and the supporting Porsche Carrera Cup Middle East (PCCME) on Thursday. A third WEC practice plus qualifying for both the Hypercars and LMGT3 classes will then take place Friday, determining the start grid for Saturday’s eight-hour, day-to-night racing spectacle, which is scheduled to flag off at 2pm.
The PCCME will also hold qualifying and its first race of the weekend on Friday, with race two the following day.
Fans wishing to attend this year's WEC 8 Hours of Bahrain, powered by Bapco Energies, and feel the Spirit of Le Mans can purchase their grandstand tickets for the weekend at just BD5.5 for adults and BD2.75 for children for the two days.
Tickets can be bought online at bahraingp.com or by calling the BIC Hotline on +973-17450000.
All those attending the WEC 8 Hours of Bahrain, powered by Bapco Energies will get to witness a packed field of more than 30 cars on track in WEC action. These ultra-quick racing machines feature motoring’s biggest international brands, and they will be lighting up BIC’s 5.412-kilometre track for an experience like no other.
This year’s WEC finale will be the 13th time the series will be putting on a show on the island. It will also be the sixth time the event is taking place in its current eight-hour format – the only event of its duration on the WEC calendar.
The top-tier Hypercar class and the lower-rung LMGT3 category will be featuring well-known drivers in the calibre of former Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button, grand prix-winner Robert Kubica, MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi, and Formula E champions Sebastien Buemi, Jean-Eric Vergne, Nyck de Vries, and Stoffel Vandoorne.
Amongst the Hypercars, Cadillac, Porsche, Toyota, BMW, Alpine, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Peugeot will be hitting the track, piloted by talents representing leading international endurance racing teams such as Cadillac Racing, Porsche Penske Motorsport, Toyota Gazoo Racing, Hertz Team JOTA, BMW M Team WRT, Alpine Endurance Team, Ferrari AF Corse, Lamborghini Iron Lynx, Peugeot TotalEnergies, and Proton Competition.
There have been six different winning Hypercars from the seven WEC rounds leading up to Bahrain in 2024 – signifying the highly competitive nature of the category.
LMGT3 cars from iconic brands are set to bring the heat on-track, including Aston Martin, BMW, Ferrari, McLaren, Lamborghini, Ford, Lexus, Chevrolet, and Porsche.
The teams that will be battling it out include Heart of Racing Team, Team WRT, Vista AF Corse, United Autosports, Iron Lynx, Proton Competition, Akkodis ASP Team, TF Sport, Iron Dames, Manthey EMA, Manthey PureRxcing, and D’Station Racing.
Aside from the racing, there will be plenty of off-track entertainment for the whole family to enjoy on both days of WEC weekend, along with an Open Paddock experience – unique only to this event and giving fans the chance to run into their favourite drivers.
BIC is bringing back the Giant Ferris Wheel, while there will also be racing simulators, reaction games used by professional racing drivers, and a fantastic classic car show.
For the youngsters, BIC has lined up plenty of attractions, headlined by the ‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Experience, which celebrates the Warner Bros Pictures live-action film of the same name. Visitors will have the chance to meet members of the Tune Squad, with Bugs Bunny and Lola Bunny greeting fans at the experience!
There will also be kids’ stage shows, LED bumper cars, carnival rides, mini-train rides, a jumping castle, a balloon twister, a live graffiti wall, face painting, and the like.
All those attending will similarly be able to interact with BIC’s army of roaming performers, including jugglers, stilt-walkers, face painters, street drummers, balloon mime acts, and musicians.
All tickets sold for this year’s WEC 8 Hours of Bahrain, powered by Bapco Energies will help make a positive environmental impact in the Kingdom, as BIC and Bapco Energies are bringing back their ground-breaking Green Ticket Initiative, which will greatly contribute to achieving the national target of quadrupling mangrove coverage across Bahrain by 2035.
