Minister of Energy Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza was the keynote speaker at a Bahrain British Business Forum (BBBF) networking function. The BBBF has over 450 Bahraini and British businessmen and women representing all production and services sectors.

The minister reviewed the history of the oil industry in Bahrain since the discovery of oil in the Kingdom in 1932, before any other GCC country. He discussed the key roles that British oil companies played to develop the oil and gas sector in the Kingdom, saying the training programmes those companies organized helped develop the skills and build the capacities of Bahraini oil and gas workers and professionals.

The minister also discussed the structuring of the oil and gas sector in Bahrain and Royal Decree 63 of 2005 on the establishment of the National Gas and Oil Authority to develop this sector, secure oil and gas needs for local consumption, and support national industries to enhance the national economy.

Dr. Mirza also noted NGOA's initiatives to secure Bahrain's needs of oil and gas with a view toward continuing economic growth, improving the standard of living, and ensuring energy sustainability in the Kingdom.
