The Arab Shipbuilding and Repair Yard Company (ASRY) has signed two landmark agreements with Italian companies during the official visit of Italian Prime Minister H.E. Giorgia Meloni to Bahrain. The agreements, aimed at enhancing Bahrain's maritime sector, were formalized yesterday at ASRY’s headquarters in Hidd. The signing ceremony was attended by Italian Ambassador H.E. Andrea Catalano, senior executives, and representatives from the Economic Development Board (EDB).
The first agreement, established with Italian defence and security giant Leonardo, focuses on naval repair and conversion projects. This collaboration aims to attract opportunities both within the region and on a global scale.
The second agreement was inked with DE Wave, a company renowned for its expertise in cruise ship and yacht maintenance, repairs, and systems development. Under this partnership, ASRY will work to bring cruise ships to Bahrain for repairs and conversions, leveraging DE Wave’s advanced technical and project management expertise. The EDB played a key role in facilitating this collaboration.
ASRY CEO Dr. Ahmed AlAbri expressed pride in the new partnerships, stating, "We’re proud to broaden our international partnerships, particularly with the friendly Republic of Italy. Our aim is to attract outside expertise, build new business connections, diversify our services, and stay up to date with the latest in maritime industry technologies and practices."
He highlighted that these agreements align with ASRY’s efforts to strengthen its capabilities and reinforce its position as a global leader in maritime services. Dr. AlAbri also acknowledged the EDB’s pivotal support in connecting ASRY with international organizations, emphasizing the positive impact such partnerships have on both the company and Bahrain’s economy.
Mubarak Al-Jowder, Head of Commercial Portfolio Development at ASRY, described the agreements as a strategic milestone, stating, "These agreements are a strategic step forward in enhancing international cooperation in cruise and naval ship sectors. They open avenues for new ideas and growth opportunities for ASRY and for Bahrain."
These collaborations mark a significant step in ASRY’s mission to expand its global footprint, bringing advanced expertise to Bahrain’s maritime industry and contributing to the kingdom’s economic development.
