Proposals for two new public halls—to ease rising event costs and meet the needs of growing neighbourhoods—will be debated in Parliament on Tuesday.

One hall is planned for Manama’s First Constituency, while the second would be a women-only venue in Nabih Saleh. Both proposals have received backing from the Services Committee.

MP Mohammed Janahi, supported by four other MPs, is calling for a hall in the Capital Governorate’s First Constituency. “The area is densely populated and lacks such a facility,” he said. “A dedicated hall would benefit residents, cut down on expensive rental costs, and help foster stronger community ties.”

The Ministry of Social Development stated that the matter falls outside its scope, noting that most halls in Bahrain are funded by private firms, charities, or community efforts. It added that many mosques already offer public-use halls. While the Capital Trustees Board supported the idea, it stressed the importance of adhering to zoning regulations and ensuring any new building avoids traffic congestion and disturbance to nearby homes.

The committee approved the proposal, citing a clear public need.A second proposal, introduced by MP Jaleela Alawi with support from four MPs, requests a dedicated hall for women in Nabih Saleh. She said the area is socially active but lacks an appropriate space for women’s events.

The Social Development Ministry noted that there is no vacant government-owned land available in the area. However, the Capital Trustees Board backed the initiative, recommending a multi-purpose design that follows planning rules and suggesting the potential for private support in funding and operations.

The committee gave unanimous approval to the proposal, describing it as a timely response to community needs.
