GPIC takes part in BIGS

ManamaThe Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) took part in the 12th Bahrain International Garden Show (BIGS) as part of its policy to support the environment, encourage the spread of green areas and promote an interest in the agricultural sector.

The show is being held at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and with the support of Wife of His Majesty the King, President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), Chairperson of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector Advisory Board and Honorary President of the Bahrain International Garden Show Supreme Organising Committee HRH Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa.

The show is being held from February 25 to 28 on the theme, “Tree Care,” in the presence of guests and visitors from within and outside Bahrain.

The message going out at the event is to encourage investment in the agricultural sector and highlight the importance of achieving the sector’s economic growth as well as to increase its contribution to Bahrain’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Secretary General of the National Initiative for the Development of the Agricultural Sector Shaikha Maram bint Isa Al Khalifa said over the past few years, the show has grown and now is spread over 7,500 square meters.

She said this year’s show would particularly look at care of fruit trees, traditionally grown in Bahrain for many centuries.

During the opening ceremony, HRH Princess Sabeeka visited the GPIC pavilion where she was received by President Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery and the members of the Executive Management.

HRH Princess Sabeeka  praised the GPIC for the several awards it had won in the international arena and expressed admiration for its efforts in the field of environmental care.

In a statement, Dr. Jawahery thanked HRH Princess Sabeeka for the visit to the pavilion and said she has always encouraged them to increase green areas.

Dr. Jawahery thanked the show organisers, led by Shaikha Maram for having organised a highly successful event.
