US$20m awarded to boost education in Syria: official
Brussels : Bahrain has provided US$ 20 million for supporting various projects in the education sector of Syria and neighbouring countries, a top Bahraini official revealed.
The official also confirmed that the projects Kingdom supported through Royal Charity Organisation included the establishment of the first scientific complex which comprises four schools.
This came as Ambassador of Bahrain to Belgium and Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, Dr Bahia Jawad Al-Jishi, who is also the Kingdom’s Representative to the EU and NATO, delivered a speech in the Second Brussels Conference “Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region” held in Brussels, Belgium on Wednesday.
In her address, the Ambassador affirmed that Bahrain stands with the Syrian people and offers financial and in-kind aid to the Syrian refugees living in neighbouring countries, especially in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
In the same context, she also mentioned the construction of the Kingdom of Bahrain School in Irbid, two child libraries in cooperation with UNICEF, a psychological counselling centre in the Zaatari camp and prefabricated housing units in Al-Azraq camp and necessary infrastructure.
The Ambassador stressed that Bahrain supports all efforts aiming to achieve a political solution to the Syrian crisis that should be comprehensive, in line with Geneva 1 statement and on the basis of UNSC resolution 2254.
