Say no to faulty weights
Consumers frequenting central markets in the Kingdom can now instantly verify the weight of the items they buy, whether packaged or loose. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism and the Capital Municipality Secretariat have joined hands to provide a kiosk like facility with an approved weight scale from the Directorate of Standards and Metrology. Officials from the department will help aid shoppers in making use of the service.
This services “guarantees consumers’ right and sellers’ duties and prevents manipulation,” said Assistant Under-secretary for Domestic Trade at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Hameed Rahma. The “Weighing Accuracy Service” covers central markets in Muharraq, Manama, Riffa, Jidhafs and Sitra. The facility allows consumers to check the weight of the goods sold with an approved weight scale.
The Secretariat has allocated a place for weight scale in the headquarters of its offices in the central markets, Director General of the Capital Secretariat Shawqeeya Humaidan said. The service, Humaidan explained, allows consumers to attend in person and check the weights of goods immediately. So, next time you buy an item from a store from one of the central markets in the Kingdom, make sure of it proper weight.
