Manama Souq set to get a big facelift

Manama Souq is all set to receive a new vibrant look by revamping its facades and creating new look signages for storefronts, it has emerged. According to the Manama Souq Development Committee, the move would “enhance and maintain the old Souq’s position as an authentic tourist destination in the Kingdom”.

The committee also said it is now accepting requests from traders and shop-owners in the area for the facade and signage grant programme. Interested traders can now apply for the signage programme by submitting the required documents to the BTEA. The meeting held 30 October 2018 was headed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), Shaikh Khaled bin Humood Al Khalifa.

The storefronts, the committee said, will be replaced as per the design guidelines put forward in the Master Plan set by the Committee to enhance visitors’ experience. Once approved the requests will be submitted to Tamkeen, who will be financing the cost of the project by 50 per cent.

The Manama Souq Development Committee comprises of representatives from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning, Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, Urban Planning and Development Authority, Economic Development Board, Capital Municipality, Capital Secretariat Council as well as a number of Manama Souq traders.
