TRA wins top award for “Regulatory Initiative”

The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Bahrain (TRA) has been selected as the winner of the “Regulatory Initiative of the Year” Award for 2018 by CommsMEA. The recognition came during the 13th edition of the annual CommsMEA Awards held in Dubai last week.

The award recognises the authority’s commitment to prioritizing the deployment of public radiocommunications stations and the recent issuance of the Public Radiocommunications Stations Regulation. “This is an essential step towards enabling the deployment of future wireless technologies using state-of-the-art stations but at the same time considering public concerns and environmental impacts,” the authority said.

TRA’s Acting General Director Shaikh Nasser Bin Mohamed Al Khalifa said, “There is no doubt that this Regulation is placing the Authority in a pioneering position within the MENA region with respect to the effective deployment of wireless stations”. “The Regulation assigns TRA to deploy a fully automated permitting system that reduces the lead-time to market and encourages increased sharing practices of new and existing stations,” Shaikh Nasser added.
