Just ‘Tap and Go’
BBK announced the launch of contactless debit cards offering a new method to purchase products and services. “Tap and Go”, BBK said, enables customers to make payments by tapping their contactless debit cards near a point-ofsale terminal. The debit cards can be used for contactless payments without entering a PIN up to a limit of BD 20 per transaction.
The “Tap and Go” service is enabled using NFC technology (near-field communication) which allows cards with NFC tags and an active electronic terminal that is NFC enabled to connect at a close range. BBK said customers can start using their cards for “Tap and Go” service in all enabled pointof-sale terminals in Bahrain and abroad.
The service will also be available over BBK ATMs shortly. Reyadh Sater, BBK’s Chief Executive commented: “The “Tap and Go” service is a new method of payment where our customers will be able to make purchases and payments by tapping their new contactless debit cards near an enabled pointof-sale terminal without the need to insert the card or enter a PIN.”
BBK started issuing contactless debit cards effective 18 May 2019. All new accounts opened after or are due for renewal of their debit cards will receive NFC enabled cards.
