Carrefour marks plastic free day
Carrefour, operated in Bahrain by Majid Al Futtaim, yesterday announced it will distribute over 2000 complimentary reusable bags today across its stores to mark International Plastic Bag Free Day. The offer is available to anyone who has previously purchased a reusable bag or will purchase a reusable bag.
The bags are also available for purchase at all 12 Carrefour stores in the Kingdom for a nominal price of 0.300 fils per bag. Each bag comes with a lifetime guarantee and will be replaced free-of-charge at the customer’s request if needed. The initiative comes in-line efforts to curb the use of single-use plastic across the business.
Jerome Akel, Country Manager of Carrefour Bahrain at Majid Al Futtaim Retail said, “For change to occur, however, it needs to be a collaborative effort, therefore we hope that this initiative inspires consumers to take a stand so that together we can contribute to a greener environment and continue to create great moments for everyone every day.”
In addition to its single-use plastic free campaign, Carrefour said it is currently investing in a number of areas to reduce its environmental impact, as part of wider commitment to become Net Positive in carbon and water by 2040.
