Zain, Uber in service deal

Manama

Zain Group has entered into a group-wide agreement with Uber offering its customers discounted and preferential services while using Uber platform, a Zain statement said yesterday.

According to the release, the deal, which is currently active in Bahrain, also provides Zain customers a discount of BD15 for the first two rides using ZainBH promo code.

The partnership, termed as first of its kind in the region, is also active in Jordan, Saudi Arabia where services are being progressively rolled-out. It will be soon rolled-out for Zain customers in Kuwait.

“More Uber preferential services and benefits will be offered to our valued customers in the future,” commented Mohammed Zainalabedin, General Manager of Zain Bahrain.

As per the deal, Zain will be the mobile launch partner and main mobile service provider for any new future Uber service in any country where Zain operates. The partnership also aims to collaborate on the enablement of mobile payments for Uber services as well as the provision of Wi-Fi in vehicles for Zain customers in the future.

Commenting on the deal, Scott Gegenheimer, Zain Group CEO, said: “This ground-breaking partnership with Uber is notable on two fronts; one in that Uber chose Zain to fulfil its telecommunications needs across the region and the other in that it reinforces our quest to continue delivering value to our customers through convenient and innovative digital solutions that enrich their lives.”

On his part, Jambu Palaniappan, Regional General Manager, Middle East & Africa at Uber, said: “Zain has a powerful and wide reaching network across the region and we believe that this agreement will add real benefit to our users, enabling them to travel seamlessly from point A to B.”
