Carrefour encourages sustainability at “Plastic Oceans” seminar
Carrefour, operated in Bahrain by Majid Al Futtaim, recently held a seminar for raising awareness on the threat that single-use plastics, and the importance of working together to curb pollution in Bahrain. The event, organised in partnership with Bahrain Polytechnic, Clean-up Bahrain, The Bahrain Diving Volunteer Training Society, and Beach Culture was held under the theme of “Plastic Oceans” and was attended by Carrefour employees, students from the university, faculty members and more.
Jerome Akel, Country Manager of Carrefour in Bahrain at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said “At Carrefour, we care deeply about our surroundings, and believe that change starts from within. As such, this seminar will act as a stepping stone for upcoming initiatives and other activities that are geared towards reducing the prevalence of single-use plastic.”
Sh. Faye Al Khalifa, Head of the Commercial and Community Initiatives at Bahrain Polytechnic said, “Our students have gained great insight into corporate social responsibility, and how corporations commit to their long-term goals”. A movie titled “Plastic Oceans” was screened. Carrefour employees along with Kai Miethig from CleanUp Bahrain and Mohanna Al Doseri from Beach Culture, encouraged attendees to get involved with conservation projects where possible.
