trade agreement between Britain and the East African Community

Kigali

British High Commissioner of Rwanda, Joe Lomas, confirmed that Britain is seeking to enter into a trade agreement with EAC member states.

“We look forward to negotiating for a trade agreement that is somewhat similar to the partnership agreement between the group and the European Union," the British High Commissioner said in a press release issued today, Saturday.

The British High Commissioner indicated that the absence of a binding economic agreement between the European Union and the East African Community made it necessary to conduct negotiations on a new agreement, and that the agreement to be negotiated must meet the needs of Rwanda and other countries in the region in order to protect domestic industries and encourage free trade.
