The ninth edition of the annual Korean film festival “2021 Korea Movie Nights” was launched yesterday evening in the presence of the Korean Ambassador Chung Hae Kwan and a large number of K-film enthusiasts.

The festival, which will run until tomorrow, features three movies with different themes that reflect the impressive progress of film-making in Korea.

The annual film festival has returned to its original in-theatre format, but with the precautionary measures and amidst full vigilance and a pre-booking status.

“We hope this annual film festival becomes a trademark for the embassy’s cultural activities with the given integrated role of the cinema in bringing arts, music, drama, history, literature as well as other benefits including vast knowledge accompanied with entertainment,” Ambassador Chung who attended the opening ceremony said.

The Ambassador stressed that with the ninth edition of the festival, the embassy has found a consistent flow of demand for Korean cinema in Bahrain over the past years.

The grand opener for the film festival was “The Great Battle”, a historical action movie on the battle defending the Ansi Fortress.

Today, the screen will be for the “Start-Up”, a 2019 Dromedy on the trials and tribulations of coming-of-age for two young men.

The family drama “Stand by Me” will close the festival with the emotionally filled story of a grandfather’s last living days and his preparations for the future of his two grandchildren.

“We hope and believe that the Korean film festival has been contributing massively to enhancing cultural exchanges and mutual understanding between the two cultures,” Ambassador Chung said.
