Zain Bahrain, a leading Mobile Broadband network operator in the Kingdom, said it had become the first operator in Bahrain to recognise World Mental Health Day on October 10 by granting a holiday to its entire workforce in 2021 and going-forward. The World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day on October 10 every year.

This year’s theme is ‘Mental Health in an Unequal World’. The overall objective of the day is to raise awareness of mental health issues in the workplace and mobilise efforts in support of mental health and advocacy against social stigma.

Zain Bahrain said it had developed initiatives promoting employees’ well-being to enjoy a healthy work-life balance. In May 2021, Zain Bahrain introduced BE WELL, a mental health initiative, which coincided with Mental Health Awareness Month.

Commenting, Duncan Howard, the CEO at Zain Bahrain, said, “Through BE WELL and our other well-being initiatives, we continue to foster an environment of inclusivity and create a positive impact on employee well-being and morale, making Zain an employer of choice.”

Howard added, “On October 10, we hope Zainers will appreciate one another, spend time with their friends and families, and make use of Headspace.”

Zain Bahrain said it introduced two ground-breaking activities shortly after BE WELL - the first being a Groupwide subscription for all Zain employees to Headspace, a global leader in mindfulness and meditation.

The second was the provision of mental health counselling and therapy from psychologists. These sessions are provided virtually in partnership with Kuwait Counselling Centre.
