NBB initiates compliance centre of excellence with ICA

The National Bank of Bahrain recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Compliance Association (ICA) for the establishment of a Compliance Centre of Excellence.

The ceremony was held virtually with Rana Qambar, Group Chief Compliance Officer at NBB, Dana Buheji and Group Chief Human Resources & Sustainability Officer at NBB as well as Helen Langton, CEO of ICA APAC and MENA.

The ceremony also included Mohammed Matar, Senior Human Resources Manager and Noor Marhoon, Head of Compliance Assurance at NBB.

NBB’s Compliance Centre of Excellence aims to build effective competencies that align with international compliance standards.

The latest initiative’s fundamental principles are based on providing experience and education to its participants.

It will consist of role-specific training, professional qualifications, microlearning, immersive scenarios, masterclasses and a continuous professional development programme.

Rana Qambar, Group Chief Compliance Officer at NBB said: “ We h o p e to utilise a more comprehensive and effective Compliance Risk Management Approach that protects NBB and its customers, ensuring that NBB plays its part in embedding a robust culture of Compliance.”

Dana Buheji, Group Chief Human Resources & Sustainability Officer at NBB, stated: “In line with our 3-year sustainability roadmap, our partnership with ICA solidifies our stance in empowering our employees to act in the best interests of our shareholders, our customers, and our economy.”

Helen Langton, Chief Executive Officer of ICA, APAC and the Middle East, said “It has become imperative for organisations to equip their teams with knowledge on both regulatory and financial crime compliance issues throughout the entire organisation.”
