DANAT hosts Amber extraction specialist to promote Bahraini pearls and gemstones

Bahrain Institute of Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT) hosted Amber extraction specialist Michal Kosior on an official visit.
The visit consisted of seminars, meetings with Bahraini gemstone dealers and workshops. Noora Jamsheer, DANAT Chief Executive Officer, said that hosting Kosior is part of its cultural activities to raise awareness among traders, manufacturers, and other people interested in pearls and gemstones, as well as to introduce future generations to the amber industry.
“DANAT interest in amber because of its popularity in Bahrain and the Arab Gulf states, and it has a special place in Arabic literature, poetry, and cultural heritage, where it is known as “Ambergris”, and was used by many writers, poets, and artists in their creative works,” Jamsheer said.
DANAT took this visit as an opportunity to promote its laboratory that offers an accredited testing service for amber in addition to other services, in line with the institute’s vision of transforming Bahrain into a regional center of excellence in the field of geology.
