What is the sweetest and juiciest fruit in the world? Many names would crop up depending on the region, watering the taste buds. Among them, for sure, Pineapple will have a place. Although widely available year-round, the fruit has its peak from March to July. Don't worry, you can get it any time. And if you are looking forward to enjoying the fruit here in Bahrain, you are just lucky. Mizoram-grown fresh pineapples, reports say, will be on their way to Bahrain soon.

Mizoram is a state in Northeast India, with Aizawl as its seat of government and capital city. According to horticulture department secretary K. Lalthawmmawia of Mizoram, the pineapples are bought by Fair Exports (I) Private Limited, a division of LuLu Group International, in Mumbai at Rs 30 (around 0.14 fils) per kilogram from Mizoram. From Mumbai, they will be shipped to GCC. The first shipment of 230 kilograms of fresh pineapples is already on its way to Dubai.

Lalthawmmawia said that another shipment of 740 kilogrammes each to Bahrain and Qatar will be shipped soon. Villagers of Sialhawk began pineapple cultivation in 2002 and around 320 families harvested 6,400 quintals of pineapples worth Rs 95 lakh (around BD44,778) last year.
