NBB announces platinum sponsorship of schools football

The National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) announced yesterday its platinum sponsorship of the Secondary Schools Football Tournament, initiated by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Majesty’s Representative for Humanitarian Works and Youth Affairs.

The tournament, organised by the Ministry of Education for the second year in a row, commenced this week and brought together secondary school-level students from both private and government schools.

The tournament will serve to train and discover local talents and players qualified to join independent clubs and sports federations on a local and regional level. A total of 748 students representing 34 different schools will compete against each other from October to December 2022.

As platinum sponsors, NBB will be providing ongoing support throughout the event, in line with the bank’s commitment to invest in national initiatives that aim to uplift the Kingdom’s young athletes.

Dr. Mohamed Mubarak bin Ahmed, Director General for Schools Affairs & Chairman of the Organising Committee, said: “The Nasser bin Hamad High School Football Championship has brought about a qualitative leap in the concept of school sports.

Named after His Highness Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the championship has successfully ignited the spirit of friendly competition between all public and private schools, offering them the chance to win the coveted title.

“The Championship will be a key factor in highlighting and refining sports talents within the Kingdom, highlighting the partnership between the Ministry of Education and the General Sports Authority and their joint work, and the important role played by the private sector in supporting scholastic sports.”

Commenting on the occasion, Hisham Abu Alfateh, Head of Corporate Communications at NBB, said: “We are proud to support the athletic potential of Bahraini youth across the Kingdom.

Following the directives of His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad, we hope that this championship event will hone the players’ natural abilities and elevate their skills.

The launch of the Nasser bin Hamad Secondary Schools’ Football Tournament comes as a result of the success of the Secondary Schools Boys’ Football Championship.

The Tournament will recognise the top players across various schools in the Kingdom, highlighting the untapped potential to be utilised across various regional and international playing fields.
