EWA to auction decommissioned Sitra Power and Water Station

The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has announced an online auction for the decommissioned Sitra Power and Water Station, which had been in operation for 40 years until February 2021.
The auction will run for three months, from February 23 to May 23, 2023, with bidding starting at BD 10,200,000.
The equipment up for bidding includes six desalination distillers with a processing capacity of up to 25 million gallons per day, six steam boilers, four 25 MW capacity steam turbines with generators, a 25 MW gas reduction system, pumps of various sizes, and a number of transformers, switches, and electrical cables.
Interested bidders must register through www.arabian. auction or the Arabian Auction mobile app.
Bidders must also upload documents for EWA to determine technical and project-based suitability for preliminary approval.
Additionally, bidders must pay an insurance fee before placing a bid.
The auction will be through Mazad, an auction supervisory company and a subsidiary of the Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), with the assistance of Arabian Auction.
The winning bidder will be responsible for dismantling all equipment, including the turbines and gas reductions, and removing the structures and foundations of all production units.
They must also provide the necessary tools and machinery to execute the project.
The Sitra Power and Water Station started operations in 1975 with a production capacity of 100 MW of electricity and 5 million gallons of distilled water per day.
Over time, the plant's capacity was increased, resulting in a peak production capacity of 125 MW of electricity and an average of 25 million gallons of desalinated water per day.
EWA confirmed the through this project, the Authority hopes to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of government services and enable access to a larger base of investors supported by digital advantages including flexibility, integrity and simplicity.
Speaking on behalf of Mazad, Talal Al Araifi, the company’s Chief Executive Officer said: “Online auctions maintain transparency and fairness and create a competitive environment amongst investors as well as reaching a larger number of serious and flexible buyers.”
