AMH, Mayo Clinic partner to boost healthcare standards

At least 100 American Mission Hospital employees will receive training from the US-based healthcare major Mayo Clinic to their gold standards, according to a deal the hospital said will sign in October this year.

The collaboration, Dr George Cheriyan, the Corporate CEO and the Chief Medical Officer of AMH, said will follow a multi-pronged approach focused at three levels - governance, quality improvement and the clinical-academic development of staff.

In October 2023, the hospital’s board of governors will meet in Rochester, USA to seal the agreement.

The announcement follows the visit of five senior members from Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA, to the American Mission Hospital’s new facility in A’Ali, and other facilities in Bahrain. Dr Cheriyan said the visit was to further consolidate their engagement with the American Mission Hospital.

Led by Dr Robert Nesse, Advisor to Mayo Clinic’s Board of Governors and former CEO of Mayo Clinic, the team reviewed, among other things, the hospital’s governance structure during the visit from 24 to 26 June 2023.

The other Mayo delegates who visited the hospital were Sr. Business Analyst Ben Langholz, Sr. Advisor and Emeritus Chief Planning Officer Steve McNeil, Senior Business Analyst Eric Ofori-Atta, and Sr. Nurse Administrator Lisa Thoe.

Lift quality standards According to AMH, the collaboration will ensure that its quality standards are on par with that Mayo’s in due course of time.

The deal will ensure that the clinical and the academic standards of AMH are slowly brought in line with Mayo’s through research and innovation.

“One of the primary aims of the tie-up is also to train at least 100 American Mission Hospital employees, on Mayo’s gold standards,” AMH statement stressed. AMH, which is a teaching hospital to RCSI, Bahrain, said will be able to deliver greater expertise to young Bahrainis aiming to become physicians and surgeons.

“The ultimate goal is for the patients in this region to come to King Hamad American Mission Hospital to access speciality and subspecialty services of Mayo, right from here. This region’s patients will soon be able to open a Mayo Clinic file, here in Bahrain, from this hospital,” Dr Cheriyan said.
