Arab ICT Union steals show at GITEX 2023

Technology plays a pivotal role as a cornerstone of production and embodies the need for keeping pace with the big changes in the sector, Tareq Fakhroo, Chairman of the Arab ICT Union, said after the union’s participation at the GITEX Global 2023.
Union representatives and leaders of ICT associations and unions from nine-member states of the union had participated in GITEX Global, which is dubbed the largest tech event of the year, in Dubai. In a press statement, the union said the primary objective of its participation in the event was to foster a vibrant exchange of knowledge and experiences, localise cutting-edge global technical applications in Bahrain and other Arab nations, and elevate the expertise of Arab professionals in the realms of technology.
Crucial discussions were held at the event on the advancement of the Arab Digital Agenda and the formulation of a unified ICT strategy, the union said. The comprehensive strategy will entail initiatives for digital transformation and sustained growth of the digital economy in the Arab region, through strategic collaboration among member states to bolster digital cooperation and development.
The collective effort is geared towards nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship in thes technology sector, as well as collaboratively enhancing the competencies and digital skills of Arab youth, the union informed.
Strategies
Mr. Fakhroo emphasised the union’s alignment with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s visionary approach in formulating, enhancing, and activating strategies geared towards a significant scientific and technological advancement, embracing the dominance of the information economy.
He underscored technology’s pivotal role as a cornerstone of production, embodying the imperative of keeping pace with the monumental shifts and transformative changes unfolding globally in the realm of information and communications. The union’s successful participation in GITEX was aimed at elevating the ICT industry in the Arab world through collaboration and the sharing of international experiences, he added.
Secretary-General Ahmed Al Hujairy said the union aims to boost the presence of Arab technology companies in both regional and global markets by helping them expand their customer base, access new markets, and improve their performance. The Arab ICT Union comprises of nine Arab countries - Tunisia, Morocco, Palestine, Yemen, Egypt, Kuwait, Jordan, Lebanon, and Bahrain, the host country.
