Cooperation key to staying updated on specifications and metrology: Fakhro

Industry and Commerce Minister, His Excellency Abdullah bin Adel Fakhro, emphasised the importance of monitoring and staying updated on matters and advancements concerning specifications and metrology.

He acknowledged the cooperation of all institutions with the ministry, especially in various activities and sectors of standardisation. Fakhro was speaking as chaired the 56th meeting of the National Committee for Standardisation and Metrology.

The meeting reviewed topics on the agenda, most importantly the approval of adopting 693 optional standards and 15 Gulf technical regulations in the food, agriculture and oil sectors at the national level, after the technical committees of the National Committee for Standardisation and Metrology completed studying these projects and ensured their suitability for application in Bahrain, and completed notifying the World Trade Organisation (WTO), in response to the requirements of the agreement on the removal of technical barriers on WTO trade.

It also discussed the approval of the update of the technical regulation on the energy efficiency of lighting products nationally, and the importance of the regulation lies in fulfilling the national commitments referred to in the government program and being one of the important initiatives in the National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP).
