The Bahrain Center for Strategic, International, and Energy Studies (Derasat) is charting a groundbreaking course for the Kingdom's renewable energy future with the upcoming launch of the Artificial Intelligence Renewable Energy Laboratory (AIRE) in 2024.

An intensive workshop on advanced modelling, gathering experts from across the public and private sectors, was held by Derasat recently. Dr. Abdullah Isa Al Abbasi, Director of the Energy and Environment Programme at Derasat, emphasized the workshop's alignment with national goals and global trends in renewable energy, paving the way for collaborative research projects that will fuel innovation and development.

These joint efforts, involving entities like the Ministry of Electricity and Water Affairs, the Electricity and Water Authority, Bahrain Polytechnic, and Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC), are vital in achieving Bahrain's ambitious renewable energy targets – 5% by 2025 and 20% by 2035.

The workshop actively supports these objectives by equipping participants with the latest advanced applications in power grid modelling, setting the stage for a future powered by clean energy, Derasat said. One of the key takeaways from the workshop was training on cutting-edge technology that will be housed in the soon-to-be-launched AIRE Lab. This state-of-the-art facility, armed with artificial intelligence capabilities, promises to be a game-changer in supporting Bahrain's energy transition.

AIRE Lab's advanced simulations will provide invaluable insights into optimizing energy management, grid integration, and overall system performance. This data-driven approach will empower policymakers and industry leaders to make informed decisions, propelling Bahrain towards a sustainable and secure energy future, revealed Derasat.
