Sustainability Forum Middle East unites leaders in Bahrain to drive climate action

Bahrain played host to the second edition of the Sustainability Forum Middle East, a dynamic gathering that brought together over 350 business and sustainability leaders on January 8-9, 2024.

Under the patronage of the Minister of Oil and Environment, Special Envoy for Climate Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Mubarak bin Daina, the forum focused on “Achieving Net Zero – Pathways to Accelerating Implementation.”

The event kicked off with a day of expert-led workshops on January 8, featuring insights from more than 40 international speakers and hands-on learning sessions facilitated by industry giants like Deloitte, KPMG, Sustainability Group, and CFA Society, Bahrain.

The main forum on January 9 was inaugurated with opening remarks from H.E. Dr. Bin Daina emphasizing the need for greater collaboration and decisive action on the energy and economic transition.

In his opening remarks, H.E. Dr. Daina reaffirmed Bahrain’s commitment to implementing national projects and environmental programs, aligning with international best practices and standards.

Mark Thomas, Group Chief Executive Officer of Bapco Energies, a Strategic Partner of the Forum, delivered a keynote highlighting the transformative era driven by green technology and innovation.

Mr. Thomas stated, “Sustainability Forum Middle East serves as a regional platform for promoting dialogue, collaboration, and driving climate action towards a more sustainable future.”

He emphasized the region’s commitment to achieving net-zero targets through sovereign ambition, robust engagement from the private and public sectors, and the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.

The forum featured engaging panel discussions with expert speakers from around the world, covering critical topics related to MENA’s net-zero journey.

Discussions included collaborations between government and the private sector, outcomes of COP 28, funding and capital requirements, energy transition, future cities, and sustainable supply chains.
