BTEA CEO Participates in GCC Tourism Officials Meeting in Qatar

The Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority, Sarah Ahmed Buhiji, participated in the eighth meeting of the heads of tourism authorities of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, held in the State of Qatar.

The CEO highlighted the prominent role of the Kingdom of Bahrain in developing the tourism industry at the Gulf level, while supporting sustainable tourism based on best global practices and innovative solutions.

She emphasized the Kingdom's commitment to enhancing Gulf integration in tourism, to achieve mutual interests in the development of the tourism sector while increasing its contribution to economic development, in line with the Tourism Strategy (2022-2026).

During the meeting, BTEA’s CEO also discussed with the GCC tourism officials mechanisms to support and develop joint Gulf tourism initiatives and enhance its progress based on the Gulf Tourism Strategy (2023-2030).

Buhiji highlighted the efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Bahrain in creating an integrated tourism system at the regional level, noting the selection of Manama as the Capital of Gulf Tourism for the year 2024.

She stated that the geographical, historical, and cultural links, coupled with a shared heritage, amongst the GCC states, as well as the diversity of available resources and products, open up broader prospects for Gulf countries to establish numerous partnerships and joint initiatives to drive tourism development, positioning Gulf countries as prominent tourist destinations.
