BCCI and Hong Kong General Chamber forge trade alliance

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce have announced an agreement aimed at bolstering trade relations and exploring potential opportunities across various sectors.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Sameer Abdullah Nass, Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber, and Jonathan Lampert, Chairman of the Asia, Africa, and Middle East Committee at the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, at the Chamber’s premises yesterday.

This agreement lays the groundwork for deeper economic ties and mutual growth between the Kingdom of Bahrain and Hong Kong.

During meetings, Nass emphasized the importance of fortifying the economic partnership and facilitating business projects and investments between the private sectors of both countries to drive growth, prosperity, and sustainable development, while advancing the mutual interests of both sides.

The trade delegation from Hong Kong was led by Oscar Chow, the Honorary Consul of Bahrain in Hong Kong, and Jonathan Lampert, Chairman of the Asia, Middle East, and Africa Committee of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

Nass commended the increasing trade exchange between the two countries and called for efforts to enhance and strengthen economic cooperation through the implementation of agreements between both sides.

Khalid Mohammed Najibi, First Vice Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber, highlighted the continuous development and growth of bilateral relations between Bahrain and Hong Kong across various fields.

Najibi stressed the importance of improving coordination between the private sectors of both countries to maximise trade volume.

Oscar Chow underscored the significant role played by the Joint Business Association between Bahrain and Hong Kong, established in 2003, in enhancing economic relations between Bahrain and the People’s Republic of China, particularly Hong Kong.

He noted that the trade delegation’s visit to Bahrain marked the largest since the COVID-19 pandemic, reflecting a genuine desire to promote investment and development.

Similarly, Jonathan Lambert emphasised the longstanding trade relations between the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.

He urged the activation of mutual agreements to achieve desired growth in these relations, translating into increased trade and economic cooperation between both sides.

Ian Lindsay, Advisor to the Economic Development Board, underscored the importance of economic relations between Bahrain and Hong Kong, highlighting numerous promising opportunities for investment partnerships between the two.

During bilateral meetings, economic developments in Bahrain and Hong Kong were discussed, with a focus on renewable energy, industrial projects, construction, healthcare, general trade, and financial technology sectors.
