BSB students visit Switzerland

This year, 32 very excited students from BSB  Year 7 to Year 11 travelled to La Tzoumaz  in Switzerland  for a week of skiing. The first evening was left for them to recuperate and get ready for the start of the skiing. On the second day, everyone headed out onto the slopes, which were in great condition, providing some superb skiing for all. Due to the heavy snow that had fallen, the skiers had an excellent opportunity to show off their skills. Within two days the beginners’ groups were at the top of the mountain and skiing with confidence.

Perhaps the highlight for most of the students involved was  the ski lessons, provided by an International Ski company. These took place twice daily, and enabled even the least experienced among the students to learn and progress to a more advanced level. Divided into five teams according to their skill level and experience, the students practised several movements and techniques, including the ‘snowplough’, ‘parallel turning.’

The trip, which took place in February half term, saw the school group visit the resort for a total of one week. Over the course of the trip students were able to balance the several facets of a school ski trip, such as ski lessons for the whole week, leisure and fun team activities.

At the end of the week, each student was given a test to assess how much they had learned over the course of their lessons and the last day was ‘race day’ where the students participated in competitive  ski racing down the slopes.

This school ski trip was thought to have fit in perfectly with the British School vision of excellence, responsibility and individuality, having gifted its participants with important life skills.
