Lending a helping hand
Students at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland – Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) have completed a new community initiative aimed at equipping future doctors with knowledge and appreciation of community organisations.
55 students on RCSI Bahrain’s Medical Commencement Programme (MCP) took part in the inaugural Community Charity Projects conjunction with the university’s Community Engagement office.
The main aim of the Community Charity Project is to enrich and foster a sense of responsibility and involvement while providing students with a snapshot of local charitable organisations available in Bahrain that support different areas of the community.
The project carrying 40 percent of the module marks, took place in the second semester of the recently completed academic year, with students split into teams and tasked with sourcing a local or regional charitable organisation that resonated with their particular group.
Over the course of the module, which is one of twelve that make up the full programme, students established relationships with the charitable organisations, ran charity drives and made a final presentation on their academic supervisors.
