BSB to host BRITMUN IV
The British School of Bahrain (BSB) will be hosting BritMUN IV, an International conference which will be attended by Georgetown University Washington DC (GIRA) CEO Matthew Robinson and his team of experts who will be imparting their guidance to BSB’s talented students. The was announced by BSB chairman Rashad Janahi at a press conference. The event will be held from October 20 to 22 at the Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Manama. Founded in 2012 by students at the BSB, the annual British School of Bahrain International Model United Nations Conference-BritMUN-is entering its fourth year, which is shaping to be its most influential and fruitful yet. The conference is a forum for debates and a geopolitical simulation, which models major decision-making bodies responding to and shaping global issues.
The councils this year range from those at traditional Model UNs such as the Disarmament and International Security Committee of the United Nations to new and creative crisis committees such as the Bilderberg Conference and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Mission to Mars. In this way, BritMUN IV hopes to educate future world leaders and prepare them to handle complex real-world issues, while also opening delegates minds to new and intricate ideas.
BritMUN was one of the first MUN conferences in the Middle East and has now grown to be the first truly residential, international and entirely student-run Model UN in the region.
The conference will take place at The Diplomat Radisson Blu Hotel, Residence & Spa for the first time this year to accommodate the growing number of residential participants. Having exceeded 400 delegates in the conference in 2015, BritMUN IV is looking forward to increasing these figures even further in 2016.
This year, BritMUN IV has formed a partnership with the Georgetown International Relations Association of Georgetown University, which hosts NAIMUN, the preeminent Model United Nations conference in North America. With this partnership and the strongest team in its history, BritMUN as a whole has become one of the biggest student-run Model UN Conferences in the Middle East with both international and regional delegates in attendance. It boasts the first fully-functional website to be able to take payments online, along with one of the most immersive crisis debate-systems that make full use of everything from simulation newsrooms to ‘crisis-pads’ and voice recordings.
Ever since its inception, BritMUN has remained entirely non-profit and each year has dedicated its efforts to supporting a different charitable organisation. Last year’s conference was successfully able to raise $4000 for Diya Pakistan. This included enough funds to build an entire school in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa region of Pakistan and further the education of the students attending it.
The subject of this year’s philanthropic project is the Migrants Workers Protection Society (MWPS), and BritMUN’s goal is to raise awareness about the challenges faced by migrant workers and alleviate some of these difficulties through donations.
For a weekend of exhilarating debates, education on significant global issues, and a full delegate package experience, join BritMUN IV to be part of the adventure, MUN Director Mr. Sheikh said.
