United Nations Forum at AMA International University

The United Nations (UN)  representatives recently held a forum at AMA International University Bahrain (AMAIUB) to educate the students about various branches of the UN and its provision for  educational services and training, as well as opportunities for collaboration in research projects most especially those which are related to the environment and renewable energy.

The UN delegates was headed by   Amin El Sharkawi, United Nations Resident Coordinator & United Nations Development Programme Resident Representative, together with   Samir Imtair, Acting Director, United Nations Information Centre;  Dr. Abdul-Majeid Haddad, Regional Climate Change Coordinator, United Nations Environment Programme;  Dr. Hesham Abdelghany Mousa, Regional Representative  for West Asia, World Meteorological Organization;   Abdulrahman Al Awadhi, Business Associate, United Nations Industrial Development Organization; and   Ali Saleh, Programme Analyst, United Nations Development Programme.

The forum was opened by Dr. Geraldo C. Talisic, AMAIUB Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Talisic thanked the UN delegation for the opportunity to share various initiatives of the UN, discuss issues of  mutual interest,   and  give significant updates on the specific UN agencies which may be beneficial to AMAIUB, most especially to the  students. He also added that forums such as this could open new doors for the University to work  with the UN  for  mutual collaboration/partnership, conduct seminars and workshops, carry joint research work,   and hold activities that address social, economic and environmental concerns, among others.  

Dr. Amin El Meligi, AMAIUB Dean of Student Affairs, moderated the forum and introduced the speakers.  The respective heads of each UN agency addressed several issues of great importance such as sustainable development, environmental conservation, renewable energy, and water resources. The speakers also encouraged the students to avail the education and training opportunities provided by the different UN agencies.

The AMAIUB students actively participated in the forum by asking questions and inquiries about UN’s  programs and projects which can be beneficial to their academic life and can contribute to their well-being as global citizens.
