Middle East School excels in speech contest

ManamaMiddle East School won first prize in this year’s Speech Competition organised by Bahrain’s Ministry of Education. Out of more than 20 participants from private and government schools, Bushra Fattah Hassan, a Grade 8 student, was declared Champion of the competition held at the Ministry of Education Hall on March 21. In her speech, Bushra Fattah emphasised that the teachers are the most essential instruments in making teaching and learning happen in the classroom. Technology will only be an adjunct to teaching.

“Teaching of life skills or character formation should be the priority of every teacher in the classroom,” Bushra said.

She had won the second position in both Extemporaneous Speech Competition in March and Oratorical Speech Competition last year, hosted by Arabian Pearl Gulf School (APG).

For the competitions, she was trained by the Head of the English Department, Edna Hisoler.

“It was a rigid speech training for Bushra Fattah. I asked her to stay after school for this very purpose. Time is of the essence because we know that the competition spearheaded by the Ministry of Education is very challenging, almost all private and government schools would be there,” Edna said.

“I became confident to win because the speech ‘Schools after 100 Years’ has a powerful message to all administrators and teachers here in Bahrain and to the world,” she added.
