Global culture celebrated in style!

Manama : The International Family Fair has long been a highlight of the school calendar at the British School of Bahrain.

This year was no different and yesterday over 5000 visitors thronged to the school campus in Hamala for a day of culture, music, traditional dancing and fine food.

The event was organised by the re- launched Parent Community Association in partnership with the school’s business development department and preparations began nearly six months ago.

The main attraction of the fair was the ‘country stalls’ where families of shared heritage collaborated to showcase their cultural traditions and food.

This year there were 18 stalls including Poland, Ireland, Turkey, Egypt, Mexico, Bahrain, Nigeria, Malaysia, India, Romania, Jordan, Pakistan, China, Australia, the Netherlands and Greece.

The Sudanese, Indian and Palestinian stall holders also performed traditional dances which were highly appreciated by the visitors. The school choirs, and performances by students in the school’ music, dance and gymnastic academies also ensured that there was never a dull moment.

Chairman of the Parent Community Association, Ellen Van Manen was very pleased with the success of the fair. “We, as the Parent Community Association, are delighted to have brought some magic into the school family. It was also a pleasure to welcome so many visitors from the wider community in the Kingdom of Bahrain.”

Head of School, Julie Anne Gilbert added, “We are very grateful to the PCA, the families who contributed to the country stalls, the many ambassadors who so willingly gave of their time and our platinum sponsors Tas’heelat, Dr. Ammar Alekri Dental Center, and Khaleeji Commercial Bank.

Gilbert added “The, highlight for me was the when the students took to the stage for a spontaneous, student led finale, celebrating the warmth, diversity and inclusivity of our school community. It was just so clear that they were absolutely sure of the core ethos of our school. Of that, we are very proud.”
