Bahrain gets ready for largest education conference
Manama : Bahrain is getting ready to host the largest international education conference ever held in the Kingdom.
Sunday sees the start of the QS MAPLE 2018 summit, which will see 300 university delegates from 45 countries coming to Bahrain for the 3-day event. Under the patronage of the Minister of Education, the higher education summit will bring university leaders, policymakers and leading academics to Bahrain to help advance global higher education with the emphasis on technological change, skill development and leading innovation. The conference will also provide a windfall for the local economy of around $15,000,000 with delegates spending on hotels and entertainment.
Prof Riyad Hamzah said, “This prestigious conference brings the global higher education community to Bahrain in many cases for the first time; we will ensure that every delegate has a positive experience of Bahrain. UOB will host the conference dinner on the campus and we expect that the university will benefit from an increasingly international profile and it is a chance for the world to see our quality as a university and experience our great students who are supporting the event.”
UOB as a strategic partner of the conference will also present several papers and Prof Hamzah will deliver one of the keynote speeches. Prof Hamzah said, “Last week Bahrain hosted the Euromoney conference, next week we will also host the QS summit and it is also start up Bahrain week. It is clear that Bahrain is not just positioning itself as a hub for Fintech and entrepreneurship but now also for education. Our students will be active at the unbound summit next week and our responsibility is to ensure that all our collective efforts have a sustainable impact.”
