Royal University for Women launches French course

In the light of the approval of the Higher Education Council (HEC) of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Royal University for Women (RUW) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alliance Francias Bahrain for the teaching of French language as an elective course at RUW. The event was attended by Cécile Longé, Ambassador of France to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dominique Philippe Chastres, Cultural Cooperation Advisor, and Christophe Orly, Director of the Alliance Française Bahrain, as well as Essa Najibi , Chairman of the ExCo committee at RUW and Prof.Mazin Jumaah, President of the Royal University for Women in addition to academic deans and administrative managers.

A formal signing ceremony took place whereby the President of the Royal University for Women Professor Mazen Jumaah and the Director of the Alliance Française Christoph Olery signed the official documents to launch the course. The MoU revolved around the initiative to introduce of the French language as an elective offered by the Center for General Studies at the Royal University for Women.

This was followed by an overview of the Royal University for Women where Prof.Mazin Jumaah presented to Cécile Longé, Ambassador of France the progress of the university, the international collaborations, and the courses at the university as well as opportunities for further cooperation between RUW and the Embassy of France.  

Reflecting on the signing of the MoU, the Director of the Alliance Française Christoph Olery, stated “We are proud of the enthusiasm shown by the students in learning the French language, and we are proud of the role of the French Embassy, and their cooperation in bringing  us together with the Royal University for Women. There has been impressive progress in the Higher Education in Bahrain and initiatives such as these is a testament to that progress and development.”

For his part, the President of the Royal University for Women stressed the need to teach languages and cultures to the university students. “We aim to involve our students in different cultures, and for this purpose we seek to develop communication between the Bahraini culture and other cultures. This is an excellent opportunity for students of the Royal University for Women to gain an advantage in learning a new language. This agreement also comes in line with the strong friendship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the French Republic. “
