Yavi ready for Belgium track showdown

Bahrain’s athletic star Winfred Yavi is ready for the women’s 5,000 meters at the Meeting International d’Athletisme de la Province de Liege in Belgium.
Yavi, the current world champion in the 3,000m steeplechase, makes her second appearance this season in a competitive field of 17 runners alongside fellow Bahrainis Tigest Mekonen and Edao Rebitu Bontu.
Yavi also claimed her first Diamond League title with a world-leading time of 8:50.66, setting new Asian and Bahraini records.
The event holds bronze-level status on the 2024 World Athletics Continental Tour, attracting top global athletes.
Securing her spot with stellar performances, Yavi has already qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase, achieving impressive times including a season debut of 9:21.62 at the Prefontaine Classic. In 2023, Yavi dominated with gold at the World Championships and a double victory at the Asian Games in the steeplechase and 1,500 meters.
