Qatar Embraces International Olympic Day 2024

On Sunday, the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC), in collaboration with the Qatar Winter Sports Committee (QWSC), celebrated International Olympic Day 2024. This annual event, held on June 23, commemorates the founding of the International Olympic Committee in 1894.
A Day of Winter Sports and Celebration
To mark the occasion, the QOC and QWSC organized a series of popular winter sports events at the Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena. The events included Figure Skating, Free Skate, Ice Hockey, Short Speed Skating, and Curling, attracting men and women of all ages. Both talented ice skaters and enthusiastic amateurs showcased their skills, impressing attendees with their technical performances.
Community Engagement and Olympic Values
The event saw a significant turnout from the community, who enjoyed the festivities and learned about the values and history of the Olympic movement. The celebration highlighted the role of sports in promoting peace, love, and unity among nations.
Honoring a Local Hero
Guests from Palestine, coordinated by the Ministry of Social Development and Family, attendedthe event and were deeply impressed by the sportsmanship and objectives of the celebration. On the sidelines, QWSC Secretary-General Hassan Hassam Al Hababi honored the late Qatar Ice Hockey star Thawab Al-Subaie with a memorial shield, which was received by his mother and brother.
Promoting Healthy Lifestyles
The Qatar Olympic Committee aims to encourage different segments of society to adopt healthy lifestyles and emphasize the importance of the values and principles of the Olympic movement. This year’s Olympic Day is particularly special as it precedes the Paris 2024 Games, which promise to be more inclusive, urban, and sustainable.
