Bahrain all set for Ironman 70.3

HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee confirmed that preparations are almost completed for hosting the IronMan 70.3 Championship and the third and final stage of the Nasser Bin Hamad Triple Crown Series tomorrow.

Shaikh Nasser called on the public to witness the three stages of the event and support the participants who number over1,100 international triathletes from around the world and many from Bahrain and the GCC.

He also stated that this event will put Bahrain on the international sports map as the home of triathlon sport in the Middle East on the international sports map.

Shaikh Nasser reiterated that the spectators will have a big role in the success of the championship, adding that this would further encourage Bahraini participants to post good results.

It was also announced that the championship will be aired live on Bahrain Sports Channel (BTV) and will also be covered by international news agencies, which would help in making it reach to a large audience, locally, regionally and internationally.

Shaikh Nasser also instructed the organising committee to maintain public roads stay open on the day of the race, aimed at ensuring minimum disruption to both the citizens and residents’ interests are not affected, adding that one lane would be allocated for the contenders and will be reopened after all of them pass through in a period of no more than four hours.

Shaikh Nasser also welcomed members of Bahrain Endurance 13 Ironman team, who will participate in the championship.

He highlighted that their participation would enrich the championship and contributes in making it a successful international sports event and wished them all the best.

The race is also an opportunity to the team’s superstar Daniella Ryf who is one race away from winning the Nasser bin Hamad Triple Crown Series after she won the first two stages in Dubai and Zell am See, Austria earlier this year.

The organising committee confirmed the championship will consist of a 1.9km swim at Khalifa bin Salman Park in Hidd, 90km cycling from Muharraq through to Manama and finish at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) followed by a 21.1 km run from BIC and the surrounding areas including Al Areen Wildlife Park and finishing at BIC.
